Dressing Up for World Book Day

In celebrating World Book Day, thousands of children around the globe dress up in costumes.

In a piece at BBC.co.uk, Dominic Casciani raises a concern that there is too much focus on the commercialised aspects of the day — costumes, plastic figurines, flamboyant parties and the like — and not enough where it should be: on books.

It’s an understandable concern but our view is a somewhat more pragmatic: if dressing up as a favourite character encourages more kids to read, then we’re all for it.

After all, who wouldn’t want to dress up as Dr. Kakofonous A. Dischord or the Princesses Rhyme and Reason from The Phantom Tollbooth? It’s just fun.

We say celebrate World Book Day however you like. Knock yourself out and have fun … it’s as easy as falling off a log.
